Language

I'm still trying to figure out how I am going to incorporate the language aspect to my montage. I figure I could try to do a voice over in spanish that fades into english slowly when looking at images from my mothers side of the family and italian into english from my fathers side of the family.
The readings are all very interesting. The image that Prof. Baldwin displayed in class of Plato's cave was mind boggling. I think the aspect that most affected me was the only that was rarely discussed in class, the shadows behind the prisoners. I kept thinking about how the shadows could have been cast by the puppet showmen, but also was a combined creation by fire, the filtered sunolight and the prisoners themselves. Distortion....

I'm In A Prison...

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! LOL That's all. Way too much work and I'm run down and sick sooo I'm beginning to feel like this prison is all around me.

The reading is very interesting I wish I double majored in English

Class Yesterday

Professor Baldwin gave me this great idea for my photo essay to talk about language since both sides of my family are slowly losing the fluency their parents and grandparents had of their culturally native tongues. My father never learned to speak italian from his parents and I can barely speak spanish. Each generation of my family that has lived in America speaks less and less of either of those langauges. I'm just trying to think about how to convey that...

Tao

I am still reading the Tao but so far it is very insightful, although as I read it I wonder how practical it is. In a world like today, who has time to meditate and learn about deeper concepts in life like the Tao.
One line that strikes me said something to the effect that "When her work is done she forgets it, that is why it lasts forever." It sort of struck a chord with me because I'm always moving on to a new project, so once my work is done I forget it, but it doesn't last forever...

I need more Landscapes!!!!!!!!!

Everywhere I go I rush rush rush around and I never remember to stop and take landscape pictures. I have a few. I'm constantly going all around long island but since I drive myself and NOBODY ever drives me I never can just relax and take apicture. Instead I have to focus on getting myself to work on time or school or anywhere. I want to relax long enough to take a snapshot of LI.

SO SO TIRED

OK So I got home late from work, tried to finish up reading the Tao without much success and some of the Critical Media Essay. I've been feeling sick since friday AND need to make a Dr's appointment and go food shopping today. Wow, being grown up isn't fun at all. When will I find time to get the rest of what I need done? My hw for instance???
I have a few landscape shots buuut I still need more. Didn't GIMP anything last night. Was way too tired. Being a counselor for mentally ill people is REALLY REALLY exhausting.

UM, yea this blogger is becming a journal more than a class blog. Oops pardon my venting.

At Work

I feel like this semester is the busiest I ever had! Every day is jampacked. Yesterday I spent the better half of the day trying to learn how to manipulate pictures on GIMP. Even though Professor Baldwin said we should only spend an hour to get 100 photos, I was still trying to learn how to use the program and instead spent about 4 or more hours and only managed to come up with 20 photos. It wasn't until the last half an hour of playing around with the program that I figured out how to use the filters. My sister emailed me a tutorial on it and it helped out a lot. Regardless, I had planned on reading today and finishing the last 80 picture manipulations buuut I'm stuck at work. I was supposed to work 1-9:30 pm today, but I planned to take my break at 8:30 so that I could go straight to my apartment and start my homework. Unfortunately nothing goes as planned and instead I'm stuck working utnil 11pm tonight without a break--10 hours YUCK!!! And today is kind of busy. I shouldn't even been on this computer buuut I wanted to get some work done, even if its something as simple and mindless and blogging for THR 216.

Hopefully after I get out of work today I won't be too tired and I can get some work done but i have to get up EARLY for the child care center annnd soooo signs point to, SLEEP :-(

I had also wanted to get food shopping done. It looks like I won't have time to do that until tomorrow night. I'd like to eat--going 2 days without food is NOT exactly a dream of mine.

I want a nap...

Soooo since yesterday I didn't get much done being that I had class from 9:50 until 9pm today with no breaks annnd now I have to get a bunch of work done for class tomorrow.

My sister should be emailing me more family pictures within the hour, so yay!
I'm still trying to work my way through Gimp. I never had photoshop before, sooo I'm somewhat of a novice with these programs.

Blah-Blah-Blogger

I haven't kept up with this much and its' only the first week! A few days ago I went away with my best friend to what felt like the boonies without any internet connection. I fell down a hill and my hand really hurts so I think I may have sprained or fractured it.

I got Gimp on my computers and a few pictures from home on my flash drive so I need to start to figure out how to use gimp and start to play around. My roomie promised to teach me about skype so that should be interesting.

Last week we began to speak about binaries, opposites like night and day. I'm trying to stay focused on this in terms of the concept of the allegory of the cave. The first few days I'm still getting my bearings and I'm still slightly confused, but if I stay dedicated to it, I will figure it out eventually.

Anyway, I haven't had much down time in the past 4 or 5 days so let me go and get some work done for class tomorrow and try to get to bed by 12 so that I can call it an early night :-D
